An Interview with Book Blogger, Louise | The Gatekeepers Post

GATEKEEPERS POST STAFF The Gatekeepers Post is the leading social media book publishing community on the web....More

Today we interviewed Louise of Book Bliss,?a blog that offers in-depth book reviews for those looking to find a good read. Whether you?re an author looking to pitch a book or an avid book blogger fan, Louise talks to us about some of her favorite books as well as what it takes to grab her attention when submitting a book to be reviewed.

What do you typically look for when seeking new books to read?

I will openly admit to being someone who judges a book by it?s cover, although normally the synopsis has to appeal to me as well, if it?s got a seriously good cover then I have been known to buy a book despite it?s synopsis. I?ll also seek out other peoples reviews of books, the blogging community is huge and if I?ve heard a couple of different people mention a book then I?ll want to know what all the fuss is about.

What types of books do you wish people would send you?

I read most fiction plus memoirs so if your book fits into that genre then there?s a good chance i?ll at least consider it, the only books I won?t consider are non-fiction and self help type books.

As a book reviewer with limited time on your hands, how do you go about selecting titles from the suggestions sent to you? What?s a good way to catch your eye to ensure a review?

Obviously have a fab colour and an excellent synopsis, if you?re an established author I?ll consider whether I?ve read and enjoyed your previous work or see what other people have said about it. I read a lot of self published first time authors, if you fall into that category then sending a sample of the novel may well sway me.

What were some of you favourite books this past year?

I?ve?recently read a couple of memoirs which have been fantastic;?Little Princes by Conor Grennan which focuses on his work in an?orphanage in Nepal and his subsequent work to try and reunite the ?orphans? with their families and Beautiful by Katie Piper, Katie was a model and TV presenter in the UK when an ex-boyfriend had someone throw acid in her face, this book charts her entire life both before and after the attack.

A couple of the novels that I?ve read that have really stuck in my mind are Blessed are the Cheesemakers by Sarah-Kate Lynch and The Pursuit of Happiness by Douglas Kennedy, it?s years since I read both of these so they?ve not actually been reviewed on my blog. Generally I don?t re-read books but these two would be ones where I would seriously consider it.

More conventional novels that?most people will have?heard of are My Sister?s Keeper by Jodi Picoult and The Help by Kathryn Sockett, brilliantly fabulous books.
