We Talk Fantasy Sports: Pittsburgh Pirates - Fantasy Fillers

I am not talking about the Good Ol' Days of Barry Bonds, Andy?Van Slyke, Jeff King, and Doug Drabek.? These Pirates are stealing wins left and right, and are ready to win the NL Central.

Pitching
This is usually the LAST place you would look for help on your fantasy team, but the Pirates pitching staff has been incredible this season.? Led by Kevin Correia(49% owned) and his 11, yes 11 wins, Pittsburgh has a team ERA of 3.43.? Correia has only allowed 4+ runs four times in 18 starts, and while he only has 57 strikeouts in his 113 innings pitched, he has walked just 25 batters.??Next in line is the actual Ace of the staff, Paul Maholm(10%).? While Maholm has actually been better than?Correria statistically,?he has received little run support leading to a distracting 5-9 record.? ? Maholm has 11 quality starts this season and an ERA sitting at 3.08.?

Charlie Morton(20%) and Jeff Karstens(37%) have had very similar seasons combining for a 14-9 record with 19 quality starts.? Morton has allowed more hits than innings pitched, but just 3 HRs which has kept his ERA under 4.? Karstens on the other hand has just a 1.07 WHIP, but has allowed 17 HRs.? That?amazing WHIP has kept his ERA at just 2.55.? I bet all 4 of those guys are available in your?league and if you need some help, you should seriously consider them.

Hitting
There were probably only three Pirates drafted in your league this season and probably in this order: Andrew McCuttchen, Neil Walker, Pedro Alvarez.? Well the first two were great choices, but Alvarez has spent half this season on the DL and the other half struggling.?

Three?things to note:
1.) Lyle Overbay(3%) is heating up.? He has 8 hits in his last 4 games and over the last 3 seasons has hit .262 during the second half of the season.
2.)Ryan Doumit(8%) should be back by the end of July and he has tons of value at the weak catcher position.
3.)Jose Tabata(49%) should be back shortly after the All Star break.? He has tons of potential and value as a leadoff man with the ability to steal bases.
