The Art of the Brick Exhibition in Melbourne, Australia

Decent exhibitions of Lego modelling are few and far between in Australia. We have no LegoLand. We have a great Adult Fans of Lego community, some fine builders ? but rarely the chance to see their work.

So, the opening of Lego artist Nathan Sawaya?s incredible large-scale Lego sculptures in The Art of the Brick exhibition on June 2 in Melbourne?s Federation Square is going to be a must see for anyone with even a mild interest in the humble Lego brick. Nathan?s work is recognized all over the world and has amazed millions of art lovers, both young and old. As the promo material says, ?If you?ve ever enjoyed tinkering with Lego, you?ll love The Art of the Brick.?

But, for Melbourne locals, a great feature of the exhibition will be Iconic Melbourne by the Melbourne Lego users group. Iconic Melbourne features landmark Melbourne buildings all made fromLego , such as the Queen Victoria Market, Eureka Tower, Southern Cross wheel and the Shrine of Remembrance amongst some of the great models.

And if you?re one of the first to visit The Art of the Brick you?ll get the chance to place your ?brick in the wall? and bring to life a mystery mosaic featuring a famous Melbourne icon. Measuring 4.5 meters wide by 2.2 meters high, the mosaic will be made up of 168,000 Lego bricks when completed and weigh 350kg! It?s your chance to be a part of Melbourne Lego history!

If that isn?t enough, there are activities and programs to support children to engage in the creative pursuit of Lego and the ground floor will become a temporary home to Australia?s largest Lego store ? just see if you can leave without a new model to build.

It starts June 2 and won?t be around for long. So, if you are in Australia ? don?t miss it.
