Ideas to motivate coworkers to take part in health wellness ...

At my place of employment we are wanting to start up a wellness program for all employees and their families. I am in need of any suggestions to help get the program started. or ideas that we could use would be greatly appreciated.

Walk for a raffle. instead of pledging for a cause and then walking it off, look for donations (most restaurants will if you ask) and then whichever family walked the most per person gets the prize.
You may even be able to get a local gym to donate a month membership.

bring a carrot to work day?

Your place of employment could subsidize gym memberships. The place I work at does that and therefore I pay less for my annual membership. what exactly are you trying to set up? After-work yoga at 5pm? You could organize a 5k or something and have the proceeds go to a cancer research center, or organize a group that runs a 5k or similar activity for an already-organized fitness event.

Have a Health Fair!

Bring in nurse's to take blood pressure and check for cholesterol and blood sugar. (This can be supported by your medical carrier also).

Have a heart testing area. Know the Signs of a heart attack!

Hand outs on drugs and kids and knowing what to do if someone get poisoned at home or goes down.

a 911 plan

A fire plan for your homes and bring in someone to talk about smoke alarms from "Master Guard" we used them and had a lot of good feed back. They show you how to use a extinguer set up a plan and explan the do's and don't's of a fire.

Have a ball toss into a hoop a box and into a pond of water for skill for kids and adults.

1 K event.

It depends on how big your company is, but the better the health of the employee's the better the company's bottom line will be too. a Few gifts from local company's that wish to put on a presentation, like a local gym giving away a few 30 day visits a win win for you and your group and they can win too.

Do what my friend did at her job. Just about everybody is influenced by money, so?. start a bet a weight bet for example. Name the event in the name of Wellness program. every one puts in like $50. The person who losses the most weight wins.

"If you build it they will come."

Every office is different. In my office I have found the biggest problem motivating people to do anything is in the planning. everyone talks about doing something, but unless someone does the leg work, nothing ever happens.

So the biggest motivator would be to find out what the interest is and then coordinate it. Send out notice to everyone when and where you will be meeting?and try to get a head count for participation. You don't want to arrange an activity that requires more bodies than will agree to attend.

I really like this idea for work! a few summers ago we had created a day on the green where we had healthy fun foods, and great activities that could really be considered exercise. But they don't have to know.

-Have a potluck and share some healthy family recipes, make a book of all of them
-Host a fitness challenge with a organization Nike, or American Heart ***. and offer prizes/recognition for participation (ie: 5 points for walking the dog with family after dinner)
-Offer a healthy breakfast to kick off the first day of the initiative
-Offer guest speakers or guest to come to the office during lunch like a yoga instructor that can talk about stress

I hope this helps! good Luck!
